Software
Overview
ISTI’s wide range of software products are used in seismic data centers for automatic event detection, processing, post processing, and network management:
Contract support to the USGS for the development and maintenance of core Earthworm. ISTI is best known as the company behind Earthworm support and training.
Advanced Quake Monitoring System (AQMS). This is the next generation of Earthworm, used by the US Regional Seismic Networks and others.
EZEarthworm. Another ISTI product built around Earthworm, EZEarthworm facilitates straightforward deployment of Earthworm instances and provides a web interface to Earthworm.
SeisNetWatch. A user interface for monitoring the State-of-Health of seismic network assets, SeisNetWatch is just one of several ISTI-developed software tools that integrate with Earthworm. These integration tools enhance the user experience and add the capabilities to fully manage a mission-critical seismic network.
SeisComP software and support.
ISTI’s experts in seismic data center software, including Earthworm and SeisComP, provide unparalleled software and support for any of your projects.
AQMS is the real-time and post-processing wrapper around the Earthworm automated earthquake detection system that is in use by the majority of Regional Seismic Networks in the United States as well as the volcano observatories. AQMS is written in C++ and Java and uses an Oracle database for persisting data. AQMS provides archiving and processing of earthquakes from Earthworm by analysts, alarming of automated and manually reviewed events, as well as a web-interface and Java-based analyst tool, Jiggle. ISTI is one of the original authors of this Open Source earthquake processing system and the only commercial supplier of installation and support services.
Earthworm (v7.9 as of Nov 11, 2016) is an Open Source (not to be confused with Open Architecture) software system that is used globally for regional and local network seismology. It has been around since the early 1990s and is used by over 180+ organizations world-wide for monitoring earthquakes and volcanoes.
EZ EarthWorm, EZW, is ISTI’s exclusive EarthWorm package designed to make earthquake monitoring easy. Do you ever wish you had a web-interface to Earthworm? Well EZW is the answer to your wish. ISTI has over 15 years working with Earthworm and we have poured our heart and soul into our new web-based EZW product.
ewSMSalert provides a new tool for Earthworm systems users to obtain a earthquake information text message sent to mobile phones using an SMS modem. This tool allows operators to provide instant information about earthquakes happening within their network directly to their users, even if the internet is down.
ISTI is collaborating with the California Integrated Seismic Network (CISN, cisn.org) to develop a next-generation earthquake notification system that will alert users, in near real-time, of seismic data as well as vital earthquake hazard information following a significant event. Primary users will include emergency operations centers, utility companies and media outlets.
ISTI has been developing new modules and modifying existing modules for the open-source version of SeisComP since 2014.
SeisNetWatch allows seismic network operators to monitor and manage the State of Health (SOH) of their networks or other networks distributed across the Internet. If you are worried about monitoring data quality and data flow, then SeisNetWatch is the tool for you! This technology, while designed for seismic networks, is easily customizable to your network’s hardware and SCADA systems.
ShakeMap is an open source tool developed by the USGS for creating and displaying maps of strong-ground motion in near-real time, including peak ground acceleration (PGA), peak ground velocity (PGV), macroseismic intensity (MMI), and peak response spectral acceleration amplitudes (at 0.3, 1.0 and 3.0 sec periods).
